Karate-Do, "Way of Empty Hands" - History

In the struggle for survival the human being for a defense to overcome adversity. In all corners of the earth man has developed tools and techniques to defend themselves, win or dominate the environment that surrounds it. As a means of self-defense, developed in Okinawa Karate-Do, initially called "TE" (hand) or "TI" which is the same as "TE" only in Okinawa-go (the language of Okinawa). This struggle taught the practitioner to confront the unarmed opponent.

The island of Okinawa, known as a "rope under the ocean, is located in the Pacific Ocean, about 600 km south of mainland Japan, 600 km north of Taiwan and 700 km east of China. In 1371, Okinawa began an intense trade with China, Korea and Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Java, Philippines, Indonesia, Sumatra, Malaysia. As a result, there was also a cultural exchange that brought to Okinawa another way of fighting coming from China, similar to the "TE", the "Kenpo" (or Chinese Boxing). With the presence of Chinese struggle in Okinawa, has perfected a new form of struggle, the "Karate-Do." Twice there was ban on weapons in Okinawa. At that time the island of Okinawa was divided into three states: Nazan, and Chuzan Hokuzan. In 1427 the king of Chuzan, Shohashi conquered all the island after many conflicts and for the first time was the prohibition.

When the governor of Okinawa Satsuma attacked and mastered it in 1670, again ordered to ban the use of weapons. So KARATE-DO has assumed greater value. Those who could not use weapons, improved and used KARATE-DO as a means to deal with armed opponents. Karate-Do was developed in three different locations in Okinawa: Shuri the capital, denominated as "Shuri-Te", in commercial and Naha city, denominated as "Naha-Te" and the port city of Tomari, "Tomari - Te. Shuri-Te and Tomari-Te style gave rise to "Shorin" and Naha-Te style "Goju". Currently there are various styles that have emerged as the derivation of the Shorin-Ryu and Goju-Ryu, or as a result of the integration of these two roots. Master Funakoshi was leading Karate-Do from Okinawa to Tokyo for the first time in 1917 and then came the following Masters: Kenwa Mabuni (Shito-Ryu); Kanken Toyama, Chojun Miyagi (Goju-Ryu), Choki Motobu, and others led the Karate-Do to various cities in Japan after World War II Karate-Do was popularized by the World.

There are ancient records of Karatedokas, since the prohibition of the practice for many years made this art was taught secretly for selected students.

Features Style Shorin-Ryu

Breathing

The method of breathing should be with other natural posture without showing "suki" (brief moment of inattention, carelessness, recklessness, precipitation) and / or "iro" (color, physiognomy of the face) to the opponent. It is important to perform a quick movement with intelligence. So you can not change the color of the face, breath and inspiration can not be perceived by the opponent.

Might

The application of force is inside out and it is important to concentrate it instantly, so even though the line "enbu" (movement of body parts during the year martial art) is straight, for attack and defense is required agility , using the circular motion and they should be combined into one easy move with speed and intelligence.

Longevity

In the style Shorin-Ryu, by their very nature are much more long-lived people. They said the man lived well until age 50, but the Masters ended life with more than 80 years. This fact gives the conviction that this style is very appropriate for the health as well.
