Classical Martial Progression
Shogo
"Advanced". Literally, "technically strong." Corresponds roughly to 1st Kyu and 2nd Dan is good Deshi which should help the students technically inferior.
Tashi
"Expert". Corresponds to the 3rd or 4th Dan teaches untitled teacher and watch the Renshi.
Renshi
Expert in improved technique. Corresponds to 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th Dan Generally, teacher for the lower, is an assistant Kyoshi, as are the Shogo Tashi and that should help the lower.
Kyoshi
Expert instructor with internal matters and mental advanced "(kokoro). Corresponds to 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th Dan In Japan, usually the classical level of Sensei (Teacher). After three to five years, Kyoshi it is usually the Chief Instructor or Assistant Hanshi.
Hanshi
"Respected Teacher." Usually corresponds to 8th, 9th or 10th Dan Fields advanced interior and exterior, with state of spiritual awareness (Ikonokokoro).
Shihan
"Master Model". Literally, "To imitate the man." Generally, "out of the ranks." It corresponds to a technical level between the 6th and 10th dan, provided they have formed their own style or movement. Title often posthumously.
O-Sensei
Title of honor and very respectful, given the Shihan when the latter is alive. Master Yamaguchi Goguen was so called.
Soke
Title of the founder of a Ryu or his heirs. It is also Sokei or Shosei. The touch of Soke was called Ryugi.
Shike
Special way because, sometimes, the Grand Master of a martial family, heirs to generations of Soke.
